Lobbies-controlled US senators blast Türkiye

Some US senators who are under the payroll of lobby groups continue to call for sanctioning Türkiye for its rejection of Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership.

One of them, Chris Van Hollen,  slammed Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday, calling for new sanctions on Ankara. He said ” “I believe that Erdogan has taken Turkey down a very bad path, and we’re also witnessing this as we get toward the elections that he called for mid-May”.

He also accused Erdogan of cracking down on opposition parties. In addition, Van Hollen claimed that Türkiye caused difficulties in fighting ISIS despite that Turkish army had more casualties than American army, which uses terrorist groups as proxies.

Turkish authorities generally do not mind such accusations coming from senators speaking on behalf of lobby groups. The anti-Türkiye senator group is trying to ban sales of F-16s to Türkiye. Yet, again, Turkish officials don’t give importance to their biased lambasts.
