A Southern Cypriot member of the European Parliament has warned that rising Israeli investment and land purchases in Cyprus are increasingly influencing the island’s social and economic landscape.
Fidias Panayiotou said that “Israel is buying Cyprus” through expanding real estate projects and property acquisitions by Israeli investors and companies.
He noted that foreign investment in Cyprus has grown significantly in recent years, particularly in real estate, with Israelis among the most active buyers.
“The problem is that we are dependent on Israeli investment for our economy to go well,” he said, warning that large-scale purchases are creating “closed residential circles in specific areas.”
Analysts say Southern Cyprus and Greece have given concessions from their sovereignty, especially to Israel, due to nonsense fear of Türkiye. Turkish government has many times offered both Greek states to solve problems through negotiations but they rejected. Presence of Israel in Cyprus island will be a greater threat to Greeks, analysts add.
