Sisi may accept Gazan refugees, Jewish journalist claims

Israel has proposed Egypt to accept 2.3 million Gazans to Sinai region in return for a significant chunk of Egypt’s international debts. Some sources alleged that Israel proposed to pay Egypt’s debt to IMF, which is $22 billion.

Egypt’s population is 100 million and its economy is almost bankrupt. Analysts say Egypt can’t afford to look after millions of Palestinians. Even if it accepts, Egypt will be a party in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, they add.

While Sisi rejected Israel’s proposal, Financial Times’ Jewish origin journalist Gideon Rachmann said in one of his tweets that Sisi may accept the proposal.

Rachman said “Saudis I spoke to in Riyadh seemed to think Egyptians might actually agree. One high-up said to me – “Egypt is bankrupt. They already have over 100m people. What’s another million?” That said, most Egypt experts tell me there is no way Sisi will do it
