Boeing under existential threat; A 787 plane crashes in India

An Air India Boeing 787 plane leaving from Ahmadabad for London has crashed soon after taking off. With 242 people on board, the plane fell on a doctors’ hostel. While the number of killed is not clear, all those on board are likely dead, media reports claim. Air India has said on its X account “At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates”.

This the fourth critical Boeing planes accident in last several years and the third one with casualties. Two Boeing 737 Max planes had crashed due to software problem. The flaws in the software design that took flight control away from the pilots without their knowledge based on data from a single sensor, ultimately led to the two 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019, causing the deaths of 346 people.

In addition, shortly after takeoff on January 5, 2024, a door plug on the Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft blew out, causing an uncontrolled decompression of the aircraft.

Boeing 737 Max type had been grounded by FAA due to mentioned accidents. Beginning to recover in recent months, Boeing is now a real trouble now, asserts analysts. Boeing shares has plunged 10% since Dreamliner’s crash happening two hours ago.

If the reason for the last crash is due to a factory flaw, all Boeing 787 planes might be grounded, if not all types. Airline companies are also likely to cancel their orders.

An aviation analyst told Straturka that in such a scenario, Boeing may file bankruptcy. Even if not, losing customers will eventually bring the end of the giant plane producer.
