Qatar Evaluating Türkiye’s “Steel Dome” Air Defense System

Qatar has identified gaps in its protection structure—particularly in the domain of low-altitude air defense—while operating U.S.-made air defense systems. In this context, the Doha administration has officially begun evaluating the “Steel Dome” system developed by ASELSAN.

On 28 October 2025, meetings were held during Qatar’s Defense Minister Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani’s visit to Ankara. Following the discussions, the Qatari side is examining Türkiye’s proposal in detail.

If approved, the Steel Dome system will provide a layered solution against low-altitude threats, complementing Qatar’s existing “high-altitude” protection established through systems such as Patriot and NASAMS. ASELSAN’s solution offers an integrated air defense architecture covering a wide range—from radars to command-and-control, short-range weapons to long-range missiles.

This potential agreement could give significant momentum to Türkiye’s defense industry exports and its position in regional defense cooperation.
