Spain’s purchase of the HÜRJET jet-powered training aircraft designed by TUSAŞ may reach up to 45 aircraft. Negotiations between the two countries have been finalized ahead of the final order agreement to be signed at the end of next month.
Accordingly, 30 HÜRJETs will be firm orders, with an option for 15 additional aircraft, meaning these can be converted into firm orders.
Production at TUSAŞ
Under the agreement, the aircraft will be manufactured at the TUSAŞ facilities in Ankara. The HÜRJETs will then be shipped to Spain. At the Airbus facilities, the process of adapting the aircraft to the needs of the Spanish Air Force will begin.
These operations will be managed at the Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus DS Spain) facilities. Maintenance and servicing of the aircraft will also be carried out at the same facilities.
Delivery will take place in 2028
Most recently, during TEKNOFEST Istanbul, TUSAŞ General Manager Dr. Mehmet Demiroğlu explained the HÜRJET delivery process to Tolga Özbek. Deliveries to the first user, the Turkish Air Force, will begin in 2027. Spain will then receive its first aircraft in 2028.
Following the completion of the necessary modifications and the transition training of Spanish instructor pilots, the HÜRJETs will be used to train pilots during the 2029/2030 course period.
Spanish companies that may participate in the program include Airbus España, Aciturri, Aernnova, AERTEC, Airtificial, AMPER, CENTUM, CESA, CLUE, GMV, Grabysur, INDRA, OESIA, Orbital, and SENER.
Meanwhile, Spain has provided Airbus with a €1.04 billion loan for 45 HÜRJET jet trainer aircraft.
