The terrorist organization PKK has announced that it has fully withdrawn its forces from Turkey as part of a historic peace process. In a formal statement issued in Northern Iraq, the PKK declared it has ended all its activities within Turkey. This decision comes amid ongoing peace talks and was made in light of the serious threats posed by regional conflicts to Turkey and the Kurdish people.
The announcement highlighted that the Kurdish side under the leadership of Abdullah Öcalan has taken significant and historic steps toward peace and democratization within Turkey. The PKK emphasized that the withdrawal aims to prevent clashes and reduce provocations, signaling a new phase in the peace process that started last year.
This move follows the PKK’s 12th Congress decisions and Öcalan’s call for a “Peace and Democratic Society,” which was officially emphasized on February 27, 2025. It also coincides with other disarmament steps by PKK militants earlier in 2025.
The Kurdish militants noted their commitment to advancing the peace process and urged the Turkish government to reciprocate with concrete political measures to ensure lasting peace and security for Kurds and the wider population in Turkey.
The announcement was made at a press conference attended by PKK leaders and senior commanders, where they expressed hope that this withdrawal would mark the beginning of a peaceful era free of terrorism and violence for Turkey.
