Anyone with common sense who read Trump’s 20-point “peace” plan either laughed it off or concluded that it was not drafted with the intention of achieving lasting peace. Media commentators share the view that it was prepared to allow Netanyahu to continue the war for as long as he wanted.
The Wall Street Journal, the mouthpiece of American capitalism and one of Trump’s staunchest supporters, even described this “thing,” which contains neither agreement nor peace, as follows:
“Trump’s Gaza Plan Provided Netanyahu with a Political Lifeline.”
The reason for this comment, according to the author of the editorial, is that “ending the war is the responsibility of Israel’s Arab neighbors; until then, Netanyahu can continue the war.”
The Washington Post dislikes Trump but likes Israel; it also believes that this plan was prepared with Israel in mind, not Gaza:
“With the US proposal, Netanyahu achieved an unexpected victory; Netanyahu got everything he wanted, despite international isolation. The New York Times’ Jewish columnist Thomas Friedman, however, openly mocks Trump’s plan:
“Hats off to the architects of the plan, Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, and Tony Blair. Without their efforts, this initiative, this plan of unprecedented creativity and unprecedented cruelty, would never have come to light.”
But still, there is a massacre that has turned into genocide. Netanyahu, who has been forced by fundamentalist Zionists to choose between completely destroying Gaza and its people or serving 10 years in prison for embezzlement, must immediately stop this mass murder, which he calls war but which pits a resistance organization of a few thousand against more than a million children, women, and civilian men. The Gazans are being crushed not only by the rockets and bullets provided by the US, but also by Israel’s inhumane policy of starvation. While 45-50 people are killed by bombs every day, an average of 10 children also die of starvation.
Call it ruthless, call it pro-Zionist, call it written for his son-in-law, call it written for Tony Blair, the former British prime minister (responsible for the deaths of half a million Iraqi civilians); every mother and father watching their child die day by day will say yes to Trump’s plan in the face of the helplessness of the Jordanians, Egyptians, and Lebanese Muslims just an hour’s drive away.
This plan does not include Hamas in the peace process. Any parent or empathetic person would say, “Don’t give it to them!” I also say that Hamas, the Kassam Brigades, and before them Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization, were not born because they were included in the plans of the US, Britain, Israel, and neighboring (!) Arabs for this or that process. Netanyahu, who has an arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and is Trump’s sidekick (to use the polite term of the late Alev Alatlı), wants to rescue Gaza from Hamas. Let them rescue it! Hamas was a political party before it became an armed resistance organization. It will be reestablished and will continue to fight.
What matters is that, despite saying it to Netanyahu’s face, Trump does not understand (or pretends not to understand) that what is being destroyed is a Palestine to which Gaza, the West Bank, and even Acre (whose name is no longer even mentioned) in the north belong. The state that the United Nations gave 43 percent of the land to when it divided it between Jews and Muslims in 1947 is being destroyed. The Zionists are determined to destroy not only this three-part Palestine, but even the two-part Palestine with the 1967 borders.
Did Netanyahu say at the White House, in Trump’s office, in front of the delegations, “We are opposed to the establishment of a Palestinian state in any way; we will prevent it”? He did; in front of all the media, Trump said, “Netanyahu made it very clear today at the meeting that he is against a Palestinian state.”
The important point is this: When Netanyahu obstructs the necessary Palestinian state for a two-state solution, whom will Trump support?
