Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warns again PUK leaders for their connection with the PKK

Reacting to Iraq’s logistical support of the terrorist organization in Sulaymaniyah, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, “We want our friends in Sulaymaniyah to turn back from their mistakes as soon as possible.

One of the most prominent locations in MİT’s recent spot operations is Sulaymaniyah, which has come to be known as the new Qandil. With logistical convenience, access to training/equipment and overt US support, Sulaymaniyah has become the new center for the so-called rulers previously clustered in and around Qandil.

Minister Fidan answered the questions of Hürriyet Newspaper Ankara Representative Hande Fırat in the Night Vision program on CNN Türk.

Minister Fidan reacted to Iraq’s logistical support of the terrorist organization in Sulaymaniyah and said, “Our friends in Sulaymaniyah should turn back from their mistakes as soon as possible, they should strengthen their friendship with Turkey today as they have done in history and we should move together for the common future. I will do this, and while I am doing this, I am not tricking you, I am not setting a trap for you, I am telling you to your face. Give it up because it is not in your favor, it is not in anyone’s favor.”

Fidan stated that they will build “the future together” in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Baghdad, Kirkuk and Mosul, and that there is no place for terrorist organizations here, and added: “We need to throw them out of the system. These are organizations with an expired lifespan. The cities and cultures I mentioned are ancient cultures and they have overcome such threats before, and hopefully they will do so in the future.”

Asked whether further measures are on the agenda, Fidan responded as follows:

As long as you support my enemy, what do you expect me to do? We are open about that. It is my duty to prevent this enemy from taking advantage of you. I will do this, and while I am doing this, I am not setting a trap for you, I am telling you to your face. Give it up, because it is not in your favor, it is not in anyone’s favor. The people in Sulaymaniyah are friends of Turkey. It is not a people who can have anything to do with a terrorist organization.”

“SULEYMANIYAH AND KYB ARE NOW A NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT”

Minister Fidan said, “The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leadership in Sulaymaniyah and its team’s relations with the PKK and its sincerity are no longer a problem for us, they have become a national security threat.”

“Turkey is determined to use all the foreign policy tools at its disposal in a coordinated manner to ensure stability in the region,” Fidan said.

WHY ARE SENIOR TERRORISTS IN SULEYMANIYAH?

TRT News quoted Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Burak Darıcılı as saying that after the death of former Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, two different structures within the PUK engaged in a power struggle within themselves and that the struggle between Jalal Talabani’s son Bafil Talabani and Kubad Talabani also affected the dynamics in the region.

Emphasizing that Bafil Talabani is cooperating with PKK-YPG elements in the region to gain an advantage for himself, Darıcılı says, “He wants to balance Erbil, gain a bargaining chip against Turkey and indirectly get the support of the US.”

Darıcılı also explains that the so-called senior figures who fled Qandil and its surroundings are gathering in Sulaymaniyah in order to move more easily based on these balances on the ground, and that Turkey is following a road map accordingly.
