Turkish scholar Ali Demirdaş has criticized Turkish far-right and anti-Islamist factions for their hypocrisy.
Demirdaş said in his X post that;
“In Türkiye, Arabophobia is a transformed form of intense Islamophobia.
People say that Arabs stabbed us in the back, but they don’t utter a word about Lawrence.
They try to ban Arabic, but after saying that the British occupied us, they pay to learn English.
They react to someone trying to learn Arabic to enter heaven, but they themselves learn English and French to enter university.
They remove Arabic signs in Trabzon, but don’t touch the language of Russia, which had a significant role in the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, in Antalya.
They say that Arabs stabbed us in the back, but they boost the tourism of Greece, which massacred thousands of Turks in Crete and the Peloponnese.
In short, Arab (language) hatred is Islamophobia.
Period.”
