Pro-PKK mayor dismissed. Here is why

Turkish Interior Ministry has dismissed mayor of Hakkari city Mehmet Sıddık Akış, who was elected from DEM Party, a pro-PKK party.

According to the ministry, mayor of Hakkari Mehmet Sıddık AKIŞ;


⦁ He took a senior position in the PKK/KCK structure, conducted so-called interrogations and collected so-called taxes on behalf of the organisation, organised illegal marches, terrorist funerals, pressured the public and shopkeepers in order to ensure participation in the protests, threatened shopkeepers who refused to close their shutters on behalf of the PKK terrorist organisation,

⦁ He also took part in the neighbourhood committees of the PKK separatist terrorist organisation and was also in charge of it, maintained contact with the rural areas, deceived young children with ideological discourses and ensured their participation in the organisation, continued his aiding and abetting activities in the centre of Hakkari, harboured terrorists coming from the rural areas of the organisation to the centre for action purposes in his house,

⦁ He travelled to the PKK Terrorist Organisation’s camps in rural areas and met with senior members of the organisation there, extorted citizens who were against the organisation in the centre of Hakkâri under the name of so-called tax and threatened citizens with the instructions he received from the organisation.

All DEM Party mayors are selected by the PKK from the most radical civilians that maintain terrorist organization’s activities in cities. The PKK does not deny that it controls mayors and gives them directives.
