The Nobel Peace Prize goes to the perpetrators of massacres once again

This year, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition politician. Trump claimed he deserved the prize, but he did not receive this honor (!). That honor (!) went to the female politician who is trying to overthrow Maduro.

Upon researching Ms. Machado a little, we come to understand not only her but also the criteria for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize more clearly. This person has spent her entire life in politics opposing both Hugo Chavez and his successor Nicolas Maduro. Of course, being on the opposition side in Venezuela is not a crime. However, she took her opposition so far that she collaborated with the CIA, received funding from US NGOs, and incited the US to intervene in Venezuela. In other words, she openly carried out fifth column activities. It is no coincidence that those fighting for Machado to win the Nobel Prize are US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz.

On the other hand, Ms. Maria is also on good terms with Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of the Israeli killers. She even wrote him letters at the time asking for support to intervene in Venezuela. As you can see, Ms. Machado is someone who wants foreign intervention in her own country. She is on very good terms with the Americans and Israelis. Given this situation, there is no need to mention that she supported the genocide in Gaza. Therefore, a militant woman who shares similar views to Netanyahu in terms of mentality has received the Nobel Peace Prize. In other words, Netanyahu has received the peace prize.

Isn’t that strange?

It is not the Gazans who died under bombs and had their homes flattened, but those who killed them or applauded the killers who are being rewarded for their great contribution to peace. In the past, the same prize was awarded to Henry Kissinger, the Jewish US Secretary of State; Menachem Begin, the Israeli Prime Minister; and Aung San Suu Kyi, the former Myanmar leader who massacred Rohingya Muslims. If you add up all the deaths they caused, it would equal the population of a medium-sized country.

Unfortunately, the Western approach to awarding prizes aligns perfectly with the West’s Orientalist perspective. We don’t know if anyone opposed to the West has ever received a peace prize, but probably not. Because the awarders’ understanding of peace is not the same as ours. The US leaves no stone unturned in Vietnam, but the award goes to the American Secretary of State. Israel destroys Gaza, and the award goes to an Israeli and pro-Western Venezuelan female politician. Netanyahu utters a few peaceful sentences, and even if he doesn’t win, he is at least nominated. The oppressors and killers receive awards, while the victims remain victims. This also means that oppression is rewarded and legitimized.

Giving an alternative prize instead of the Nobel Prize does not solve this problem. We (despite being aware of the double standard) have accepted the Nobel Prize. We would even be happy if one of our own leaders received the same prize. We would even assume that those giving the prize have found the right path. However, the orientalist perspective does not change with exceptions, nor will it ever change. For years, without realizing it, we accepted many things done by the West, even if they were wrong, and sought wisdom in them. That is why we remained subjugated and accepted our subjugation.

So when the Western world saw Maria Machado and others who betrayed their homeland as heroes, we saw them that way too. The Nobel Prize committee should reward us for accepting their superiority without even fighting back, because of this inferiority.
