ANKARA – In a landmark announcement, the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Directorate has confirmed that Türkiye will host the 2026 NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in the capital, Ankara, on July 7–8.
Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran framed the upcoming event as far more than a routine diplomatic meeting, describing it as a “critical juncture” that will help shape the future of the global security architecture.

“Türkiye is pleased to host the 2026 NATO Summit,” Duran said in an official statement released from the Presidential Communications Center. “This gathering is not merely a diplomatic gathering; it marks a critical juncture that will help shape the future of the global security architecture.”
Director Duran emphasized that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye continues to play a decisive role in the global order. He characterized the nation as “an actor that assumes responsibility, provides solutions, and translates the spirit of the Alliance into action on the ground.”
The Communications Director pointed to Türkiye’s unique geostrategic position, its strong and enduring commitment to the Alliance, and its effective role in crisis management as key reasons the nation remains “at the heart of transatlantic security.”
Duran noted that by hosting NATO leaders, Türkiye will once again demonstrate its firm commitment to strengthening peace, stability, and collective security. He reiterated that Ankara views the Summit as an opportunity to showcase how the Alliance’s collective defense principles are being actively operationalized on the ground, from counterterrorism efforts to conflict mediation.
The announcement follows President Erdoğan’s broader diplomatic push to position Türkiye as an indispensable security actor, a theme Duran has previously highlighted in his vision for the “Century of Türkiye.” The July 2026 Summit is expected to draw heads of state and government from all 32 Allied nations, marking one of the largest international gatherings ever hosted in Ankara.
