Demand for Turkish drones mounts

The demand for Turkish drones has mounted across the globe in recent years. . Сustomers include NATO allies in Europe, Arab countries in the Gulf and North Africa and others. Türkiye has become a leading exporter of uncrewed systems and is determined to remain so, says International Crisis Group.

Türkiye’s young, mainly private-sector drone industry has developed with great speed and commercial success. Currently, domestic production is on the rise, with new models in the making.


Like other arms deals, drone sales are not without risks. The technology’s spread and misuse by buyers can come with a set of security challenges, both to regional stability and sometimes also to civilians.

We look at the potential second and third order effects of this growing trade, including for Türkiye’s own longer term foreign policy interests, and discuss possible ways to mitigate risks.
