Türkiye and Saudi Arabia has signed a MoU to co-produce Gökbey helicopters in Saudi Arabia. The agreement was signed between TUSAŞ and Saudi Investment Ministry and Military Industry Authority.
There were rumors that Saudi government was interested in both Gökbey helicopter and KAAN jet. An agreement for co-production of KAAN jets is likely to be signed in upcoming days.
Gökbey is produced by TUSAŞ and at least 5 units have been delivered to buyers. Tens of units are expected to be delivered this year. While Gökbey is powered by American TS1400 engines, TUSAŞ’ subsidiary TEI has produced an equivalent engine which is tested in a Gökbey helicopter now.
KAAN is another product of TUSAŞ. It made its maiden flight last year. TUSAŞ has started to produce 3 units for testing purposes, aiming to fly the first one in May or June. TEI is developing an engine called TF35000 for KAAN.
