A growing number of public figures have been barred, denied visas, deported, excluded from events, or canceled after comments involving Israel, Palestine, BDS, or alleged antisemitism.
Sean Strickland was not banned from Israel, but he says he was blocked from attending the UFC White House event after criticizing Israel, Netanyahu, Trump, and U.S. policy toward Iran. UFC and White House officials have not publicly confirmed his account.
Sneako’s case is more direct. Australia cancelled his visa after controversies over alleged antisemitic and extremist rhetoric, with reports saying the cancellation effectively bars him from reapplying.
Britain cancelled travel authorizations for Hasan Piker and Cenk Uygur before SXSW London and Oxford Union appearances. Both said it was punishment for criticism of Israel.
Ye has faced multiple restrictions, including being barred from Britain and having his Australian visa revoked after a long series of ‘antisemitic remarks, Nazi references, and public-order concerns.’
Candace Owens was denied entry to Australia for a speaking tour, with officials citing ‘risks to social cohesion and remarks involving Jews, Muslims, Black people, and LGBTQ people.’ Australia’s High Court upheld the denial.
Israel has also used entry bans directly against U.S. political figures. Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib were blocked from entering in 2019 over their support for BDS and criticism of Israeli policy.
Israel revoked the work visa of Omar Shakir, Human Rights Watch’s Israel-Palestine director, and deported him under its anti-BDS law. Human Rights Watch said the move targeted human-rights work itself.
Jewish-American CodePink activist Ariel Gold was also denied entry to Israel despite having a student visa, with Israeli authorities citing her support for BDS.
The pattern extends beyond formal government bans. Kehlani lost major performances after accusations that her pro-Palestine views were ‘antisemitic,’ including Cornell’s Slope Day cancellation and a later Central Park controversy.
Irish rap group Kneecap was barred from entering Hungary before a festival appearance after officials accused the group of ‘antisemitic hate speech and praise for Hamas.’ The band says criticism of Israel is being weaponized as censorship.
The larger story is that Israel-related speech has become a global restriction trigger. Governments, universities, venues, and event organizers are increasingly treating critical speech on Israel as a public-order, hate-speech, or diplomatic issue rather than ordinary political expression.
The increased weaponization of antisemitism to silence & subvert critics of Israel is a trend that has diminished the meaning altogether. This has contributed to the decline in popularity of Israel among Americans, so much that even President Trump is attempting to portray himself as distant, but his tether is tied with an infinite knot.
