Turkish professor forced to leave his academic positions after opposing genocide in Gaza

Being on the side of right has always come at a price. You pay that price when you have to choose between right and wrong, especially in certain events. The genocide in Gaza was an important event in terms of showing who stands where. We saw that those who supported the genocide were rewarded for their unscrupulousness, while those who opposed it were punished. Many conscientious individuals, institutions and countries, from Harvard University to the people who protested in Germany and countries like Spain who opposed the massacre, have paid the price and continue to do so.

I would like to mention one of them in particular in this article. This person is Prof. Dr. Çetin Kaya Koç, who is ranked 103rd in the world and first in Turkey (there are no other Turks higher on the list) among 17080 scientists in computer science. Koç is a professor who was brought back to Turkey through reverse brain drain. When we spoke to him a few months ago, he told us that he was forced to resign from his position as editor of the journal he founded and as a board member of an organization working on cryptology. When I asked him to mention it in the media, he politely declined, saying there was no need. However, he must have been subjected to other pressures as he finally announced in a Twitter message that he was forced to resign because of his social media posts criticizing the atrocities in Gaza. The Turkish media saw the victimization and stood up for Professor Koç. We would have liked the foreign media to take an interest in the issue, but they did not show any interest.

Because in the Western world, politics, business, media and academia are wrapped in a Zionist network. They supposedly defend freedom of thought, but when thoughts see Israel’s slaughter of babies not as genocide but as Israel’s right to defend itself and even applaud it. When truths are deliberately covered up and wrongs/crimes are defended as if they were right. Otherwise, you will be labeled anti-Semitic and your professional, media or academic life will be over. And no one will stand up for you because a lot of money is poured into the institutions that employ you so that you don’t tell the truth. In other words, consciences are bought with money.

Professor Koç is paying the price for standing on the oppressed side. Don’t think that this price makes Koç sad. By not selling his character for three cents, he has shown that being human is priceless. Happy for him.

However, since I know him closely, I have to say that we have not taken enough care of Professor Koç. I know that some critical institutions of our state have benefited a lot from a scientist like Professor Koç, who is one of the world’s leading cryptographers and even one of the world’s leading artificial intelligence experts. I even know that he was betrayed to the CIA by FETÖ for this reason. Our teacher returned to his country years later, but I regret to say that he was not given the value he deserved. I know that he taught at a state university and trained a PhD student at a university in China, but the knowledge and experience of this deep sea scientist can be of much more benefit. His knowledge must be transferred to new students and scientists. Professor Koç flows science like a spring, but this spring is rarely utilized. We would like him to contribute more to his country with his knowledge in more critical projects or institutions.

Professor Koç does not need a career, a position or money. He stands there like a tree bearing fruit. And the fruits are free of charge. I wonder if there is abundance in the country and we don’t see it or we don’t see Professor Koç. May this article be an opportunity to see him.
