Speaking at the #SAHA2026 defense fair held in Istanbul, TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu officially confirmed to Infodefensa that preliminary “government-to-government” negotiations are underway for the sale of KAAN to Spain.
Demiroğlu: “We received a request from the Spanish Air Force for a superior fifth-generation fighter jet. Although the project is still in its early stages, it is clear that there is a strategy and intention behind it. We are still in the initial stages of negotiations.
Negotiations are being conducted at the government level. It’s too early to discuss this now, but we will sit down with Spain at both the technical and political levels. Since this is a G2G (government-to-government) matter, I cannot speak openly about it. This is a matter that will be coordinated by the Presidency of Turkish Defence Industries (SSB). There are discussions on this matter, which is a good thing, because the next step after HÜRJET will be KAAN.
Our first step is HÜRJET, and we need to complete it first. Currently, we are focused on the development of this platform, which will play a fundamental role in the future; because HÜRJET will be the training aircraft for KAAN. We will deliver the training aircraft to Spain between 2028 and 2029.”
